Dude, I like staritng off with a Noun. Typically a proper noun. Meh.

Name a fandom, and I'll give you the scoop on at least three of my unpopular opinions related to that fandom.

Assuming I have one . . .

I next to never do these, but as I was spending the first half of my break reading folk/fairy tales I thought, why not


For me, I never had a specific favorite story if you are strict about what is or is not a fairy tale. I always thought they were kinda short and not too "storyish" so to speak. Like outlines. And they kinda bored me a bit. I always did the original version of Snow White. There's an adaptation with Sigorney Weaver that I adore.

My hands down most favorite ever story that has fairies in it is Peter Pan and Wendy, but I know it's not a traditional fairy tale so to speak. But I love it to little pieces.

I think was more interested in tales of fairies. I liked reading the various folk stories about goblins and house hold spirits, and what not. I always thought straight up informative writings on folklore and myths were fascinating and often made for interesting stories in my head. I mean folk myths were always amazing to me. Take this one:

Koschei cannot be killed by conventional means targeting his body. His soul is hidden separate from his body inside a needle, which is in an egg, which is in a duck, which is in a hare, which is in an iron chest, which is buried under a green oak tree, which is on the island of Buyan, in the ocean. As long as his soul is safe, he cannot die. If the chest is dug up and opened, the hare will bolt away. If it is killed, the duck will emerge and try to fly off. Anyone possessing the egg has Koschei in their power. He begins to weaken, becomes sick and immediately loses the use of his magic. If the egg is tossed about, he likewise is flung around against his will. If the egg is broken (in some tales this must be done by specifically breaking it against Koschei's forehead), Koschei will die.

I love that. I love that people came up with that. I means that's crazyness! That's awesome!

My favorite fairy stores for a long while were ones about Tengu. I have no idea why Tengu (a kind of Japanese bird goblin often thought to be a sinful monk) fascinated me so much more than any other goblins, but they did. Goblins as a whole were always my favorite.

So yes, I guess I didn't really answer the exact question, but oh well ^^

As for the fairies I was reading about, currently I'm re-reading about Domovoi and trying to decide if I want to torture Bucky with one.

They're a Slavic take on the typical household fairy, but if they want, they can appear in the form of the home's former resident. Given Bucky is living in Steve's old place . . . *evil* Ah random fic ideas ^^;;

Mythology is also great to pull BSG fics from. I'm trying to work a BSG story around the two god twins from the Popu Vu. Because Mayan myths are fun.

Since this has been all over my F'list and it's happier than ranting in anger about the former roommate with the Y chromosome here we go:

So that Star Trek Personality quiz thing that's going around, I took it about a year ago.

I was Chekov (64%) and Beverly Crusher (50%), which was cool because that made the only quiz which told me I'm like my favorite characters as opposed to like the hateful BSG one that told me I was 80% Lee Adama, and therefore needs to die -_-

5. I've taken seven years of Spanish and three semesters of Japanese. I can still read Spanish pretty well but I've forgotten nearly all of the Japanese. I took Spanish to be practical, and took Japanese for my Grandfather, who'd tried his whole life to teach me. He died midway through my first semester. Translating a Japanese sentence for him was the last thing I did with him while he was fully concious.

6. I used to go with my other Grandfather to Star Trek conventions ALL the time. He has passed his entire Star Trek plate collection onto me. I love them, but secretly, I'm not 100% sure what to do with them all.

7. My Half-Brithday is on Groundhog's Day, and I've always thought that was cool.

8. I had a Pet Rock in third grade that was actually a moonrock I'd bought the year before at NASA. He lived in the bottom of a milk carton I'd cut out and decorated, and his name was Lunartick. I broke him in 5th grade.

ART of 2008

Here I've collected all the art I scanned and put up in 2008.
Looking at it, I think the major thing that stands out is, I did as much original art as I did for any other fandom. Granted fanart still FAR outweighs original as a whole, but in subcategories, the original art holds its own.

My fanart has also diversified greatly. I think this,along with the large amount of original art (and finished!) reflects growing confidence in my own art style. I really think I pushed by artistic boundaries this year and did more growing as an artist than I've done in a while. Yay!

2008 is also the year of the Chibi-Comics. I think I've found a new love *L* You an expect to see more of these in 2009, for sure *L*

Between BSG and Avengers I've written fanfics this year. A lot of fanfics. I minored in creative writing, but I don' usually think of myself as a writer, so the fanfic output was surprising and something I'm proud of ^_

Happy peter! And my former default icon. This is from a set of three I made WAY back before I had a paid account and I could only have three icons. So I made a set of chibi!Peter Pettigrew. There was this happy one, a sad one, and an angry one.

This icon of Chibi!Bucky (yes my own art) saying what was my "you've annoyed me go away now" catch phrase (up until Dad heard me say it to my younger sister), which he canonically said to Nicky Fury for pretty much the same reason I used to say it. It amuses me and since dad can't be mad (ok he can but I'm 27 not 15), I resurrect the phrase with this icon to be used with things annoy me.

On a totally different subject.
Did anyone else notice how in the second live action movies, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles used their weapons practically not at all?

In fact I know Michelangelo never used his weapon once; he just swung some sausage around. Leo maybe pulled out his swords once, but IIR did not use them. Donnie used his Bo a few times, and Raph I think used the Sai twice.

But there was noticeably less weapon usage, which was all the more noticeable because there were times where it just made no sense for them not to use their weapons.

Either way though, I still like the second movie =P


Oh also, I saw Max Payne last night with Brandon, Chrissy, and Rob. Didn't know a thing about it, not even that it was a video game, and it was a good movie. Not OMG FANTASTIC but, it made sense, and I had fun and don't want my money back, which makes for a good movie to me (it did help though that all I expected based on the previews was angsty Mark Walburg with a shotgun, which I got, and it was good)
