I posted this in the hp_art_project community on LJ and DA< but I figured I'd post it here for maximum exposure.


Hey gang, I know it's been a while, but something kinda happened that shattered my confidence in this and I spent a few months reeling from it.

Here's a quick sum up, I'll provide links when I can.
Also, some of you may already know this if you are a member of Hp_Fringeart

Basically one HP fan did illustrations for every chapter in the first book. They were phenomenal and you need to see them (again I'll get links when I have more time, because yeah if you've not seen this HOLY COW! It's awesome!).

Anyway, right he collected these illustrations into a very nice hard cover book and sent it to JKR.

She sent it back.
Or rather her agents did. And from the note he got, there's no indication she ever even saw it. It was something like blah blah blah very busy blah blah blah no room blah blha blah we thought you'd want your gift back.


You can maybe kinda see where this might cause me some pause, yes? ^^;;
Here someone did basically what we are doing and JKR didn't, as far as I can tell, even see it let alone accept it.

Now, yes I realize she gets lots of fan mail and probably does get lots of gifts, so I'm not trying to be bitter here, BUT I'm putting a lot of work into this, you guys are putting a lot of work into this. Having the book mailed back to me without JKR even seeing it would be . . . . well I'd be crushed. Actually crushed probably doesn't even cover it.

Plus I'd feel like I cheated you guys because you gave money to this with a specific end result in mind and I can no longer say that end result will happen (see this is why god prevented me from taking up money YAY)



SO WHAT IM DOING ABOUT IT!
Currently, I'm trying to contact Mellissa and just see if there's maybe a better place to send it or if perhaps his attempt was viewed as a commercial endeavor or if the whole Lexicon thing soured her to fandom books. Who knows.

Once I either hear from her or give up trying to contact her, I'll open this up to discussions on what we want to do based on the info I've gathered.

For right now, because as I said, I can't promise the end result y'all were willing to pay for, I'm further putting on held taking up money until I get this sorted out (One solution, should it be determined that she will not accept or keep a book as been to create a website and send the link to her in a letter).

But like I said I want to try and contact Mellissa (of TLC) first and hopefully find a way to still make this work as planned.


So yeah, that's a bit disappointing for me, but that's where things stand.
I will keep you guys updated as I learn things.

Status of the HP-Art-Project

Basically my life is still in serious flux from the moving and the wedding such that I do not wish to try and take up money right now.

I'm shooting for, at latest Starting that in August.

I am trying to get all the art submissions sorted and organized and ready to go, so that as soon as I do start getting money I can send them to be fomatted and bound and such.

So I will hopefully start going through that asap, and contacting people if I find gaps.

So that's where things stand.

I'm so sorry RL came up and attacke,d but I jsut wanted to assure everyone yes I'm still going forward with this, no it is not abandoned, I just you know, had a real life attack ^^;;

If you've sent me an e-mail in the past two weeks you probably already know this, but here goes.

I'm behind.
I don't see my catching up in the next week.

I hate to do this but after looking at what all I need to do to make sure my wedding is ready by March 14th, I need to hold off on the Project until after my wedding.


At this point, I can't handle both because they are both huge a time consuming and errors make things go really wrong. At obviously, my wedding kinda takes priority.


I am not cancelling the project or anything, but I need to push things back because right now I know I could not handle money intake. There's no way. Especially now, because I'm going to try and sell of some art to help fund the wedding, I don't think I'm up to handling a wedding, money from the HP_Art_Project, and money + shipping for art.

Something would go horribly wrong.

So yeah.

I really think holding off on the next Art Project stage until after the wedding will save my sanity.

On the other hand tudorpot and those who may help lay pages out. I will have a finalized page count and page breakdown to you so you can workout how what needs to go where. That I am working on as I can. Let me know if you need any other information.

Oh man, don't expect to see much of me for a while.

1/4/2009 was THE deadline for the Hp-Art-project which means as of this morning, after going through 6 pages of e-mails over the weekend, I woke up with two more pages since I had to stop checking e-mails yesterday.
So lord knows what it'll be when I get back from work =P

This however is good, it means I may have very few holes in the project that need last minute filling *yay*

I will still be posting art. Goodness knows I doodle at lunch enough, plus I did manage to finish some pictures I'd been working on prior to the HP Art Project crush.

I'm just gonna suck more than usual at commenting/responding is all.
And any comment time I do have I'd like to use to focus on responding to all the yuletart artwork. I got behind on that and never caught up again 0.o




So of course now that I'm crunched for time I have a Bucky/Toro fic that WILL NOT get out of my head. And I have fics that I actually owe people and need tow rite that *flail*

Beast listened to shoot not Punk but jsut before punk, Pietro wanted Classical, so they stuck in Steve's Perry Como music. This is horribly amusing to me (Steve wasn't there, he was stuck in ice because an Eskimo worshipped him as a god, and this book was *terrific* it's Elly's but she read it out loud while I drew).

Total Needed Chapters: 25
Total Possibly Open Chapters: 77

Possible Total: 102

New to the project Pinch Hitters: 8
People willing to Pinch Hit a second chapter: 23
People willing to Pinch Hit a third Chapter: 15

Total: 46

Clearly, I need Pinch Hitters still.
Again, I prefer new people, mostly because I want as many artists as possible, but also because of the 5.00 fee. I feel bad charging people extra for helping out, but if I keep doubling (and tripling!) chapters, there are less and less funds for this project, which could cause an issue down the road.

The Deadline For Pinch Hitters: It has Extended
Initially I was trying to get all art in by two weeks into November. I've had some amazing Pinch Hitters who actually met that crazy deadline earlier than needed. You guys are made of awesome.

However, Tudorpot (AKA she who is binding the book) says at this point nothing will happen until January, SO that means the Art project Deadline can be extended to 1/1/2009 with a 15 day buffer for me to track you down or replace you.

So if you want to pinch hit, please let me know. Also if you think you can produce art in 15 days let me know because I'll put you down as able to cover anything that is not done by 1/1/2009.

Due to the large number of open chapter I makle the following alloance: you can list your top TEN (10)choices HOWEVER, if you do this, please specify if you are open to anything or only those 10

I know the chapter can matter, but I can't have single chapter requests because everyone tends to want the same 5 or so chapters.


Keep in mind I can also accept pre-made art for open chapters:
It helps though if the art is close to the art-project size specifications:
Portrait Orientation = 6.5 X 9.5 inches 350 DPI
Landscape Orientation = 9.5 X 6 inches 350 DPI

Right so the mostly finale -unless you let me know- deadline for the hp_art_project just passed two days ago and . . .


Right now, roughly 139 people did NOT turn in art and did NOT notify me they were not planning to turn in art

So so not happy -_-

On the one hand, what has been turned in though is friggen spectacular.

I'm contacting people to say WTF, and I got through book 3, but now I'm going to go draw Remus as the Hulk now because I need a break from this project, also my roommates think I've died in my room.

And the house needs cleaning like WhOA!

Well I spent most of yesterday on three things.

1. My "Save the Date" cards for my wedding
2. Getting the art up with Chapter and artists listed for teh Hp-Art-Project
3. And Working on the "Misc" section of my webpage.

The Save the Date cards are so far a minor disaster, but Brandon made some helpful suggestions that hopefully save the day, no pun intended. I think I'm just so frazzled, and being wedding art, it's a bit more pressure than usual I guess. Brandon saw the obvious solution.

The art I've gotten for the Hp_Art_project is now up on my scrap book, thanks to waccawheels who paid for me to have a paiid acount again so I could access the scrapbook. I figured the *least* I could do to show my huge thanks is get the art up and get it up right. There are still a few pieces giving me technical difficulties, but hopefully I can sort it out this week.


The webpage for the all the misc. art that I do Fanworks, is still a ways off from being finished (as you can tell) BUT I did get The A-Team section mostly finnished. So yay for that. That was the major section I wanted done . . . aside from the Dark Tower section (which will be under books)


So yup, that's where my Sunday went. Saturday went to reading to the Avengers. I blame Chrissy.

Also, hugs and kisses to Brandon, who I hope has a less tiring week!

Damn it.
Someone a dropped from the HP_art_project for lack of response for the two or so months I was demanding proof of continued interest just responded.
And asked not to be dropped.

And I had to tell them not only were they dropped but their chapter was reassigned :(

I hated doing it, but it's not like there wasn't warning *sigh*
I told them the can head the high priority list though, but that's about it that, out of fairness, I can offer.

I was kinda hoping I'd never have to cross that bridge.
Course I'm about to have a few spots open back up, so I'm hoping she'll be cool just getting a new one.

YAY! It was a case of mistaken identity! I hadn't dropped them, I'd removed an incorrect user name but the old user name was still on my "need to contact" list even though they'd confirmed under a new name.

Ha.
Ok.

Dang I hate the number of names people have online, but in this case, I'm happy it worked out!

This just occurred to me.

Can someone pimp hp_art_project on the Leaky Cauldron forums?
I can't because despite changing my password three times, I can't log in. ^^

But if it is ok with the mods, I don't supposes someone might pimp it in the fanart area?
I thought about pimping it on AA, but the fanart discussion forums are kinda dead.

anyway, I'm gonna hand out assignments tonight so it's kind a last ditch effort to gather some new people so there are as many involved fans as possible.

It's still touch and go with the Hp-Art-Project.

I sent a form letter out to (hopeflly) everyone who e-mailed me in the last few days letting them know I was behind answering e-mail.

So far I'm not so behind as I wasn't planning to start handing out assignment until today. So I'm thinking if I can't get that done until Saturday, I'm honestly not that far behind.

What this is killing is the book divider people as I was suppossed tos tart planning things with them.


Moving on from my personal life and how it affects my fandom duties:

Anyone watching The Cleaner?
I'm loving this show to itty bitty pieces.

Chrissy and I started watching it and it is GREAT. Benjimen Bratt rocks and you know what, I had NO IDEA he played Detective Curtis on Law and Order 0.o I even watched a Law and Order with him in it right before watching The Cleaner and did not notice, that's how good he is at playing a totally different character.

So all the best to him and his show. It very well done and very well acted (the wife and his two kids are AMAZING!), and very well filmed, so I'm hoping it does well.

My one complaint is that'Boomer/Sharon' (last time I tired to write the actress's name I got it wrong, so she can be 'Boomer/Sharon' now) needs to fill back out a bit. She's a great actress and kicking it on this show, which hopefully will keep her from being typcasted as 'asian sci-fi babe' or something, but she's creeping into 'painfully thin' territory.

I know she's likely naturally on the small/petite side, but she's starting to look a little like a bobble head. So hopefully she fills out slightly, or at least gets no thinner.

I HAVE NEW RATS! Brandon and Chrissy got me new baby rats OMG! SO CUTE. They took me to the pet store and let me pick out any two I wanted, so I got a medium sized solid blue (like a light silver grey, but it's known as blue) rat, and a chololate colored one with a white splotch on his belly.

Pictures coming when I get home now that I have a digital camera.

They need names, but I'm waiting to get to know them a bit better before I name 'em. Right now they are called "little guys."

Wedding
I still cant' decide on a location. Either I hate it but it will hold all the guests or I love it but it seas only about 1/3 of the people we plan to invite.

Cue frustration.

So last night I organized all my financial records.
Fun times. Took forever. I'm horribly disorganized.

I find a check. And at first I think it's a "check"
You know, those "here have some more debt" checks credit card companies like to send, which promptely get shredded.

Upon closer inspection . . . it's a real check. Some kinda YAY you graduated and have thousands in loans type incentive check.
For about 500.00.
Made out 10/26/2006
With no warnings of being void in 90 days.


So uhhh yeah.
I'm gonna go depost it into my savings via ATM.
If the bank later sees the date and flips or the check is denied, then well, I have it in my savings and they can have it back. If not, I have 500.00 dollars.


I also have a really good lesson in why I should pay more attention to my mail -_-



Other than that.
I need to send art work to HP Art Project layout volunteers.
I need to send the last list of names to the last contact volunteer (no I'm not behind on getting lists out, I realized Monday night I needed one more person; I saw her acceptance this morning; list tonight)

I need to also get my cousin's art framed and matted.
And I need to print my father's poem out on nice paper and paint on that a little.

Which means I need to set up my NEW PRINTER!
YES! New printer! I no longer have as 5 year old broken Lexmark printer.

I now have a brand spanking new Epson RX595.
This makes my artistic heart gleeful.

I shall make bookmarks or something for Portus I think.



Actually, does anyone know how to make buttons?

I know I know 'Fannish Importance" should be an oxymoron, except when it's not.

LJ is having elections advisory board elections.
Now, see I wasn't gonna vote because I was honestly fine with whatever fandom rep we elected.

Except the problem is some asshat has opted to run for the lulz.

Now and care, and now I've voted, because I do not want an idiot who wants to run merely to thwart fandom because fandom killed his lolcats or something to be elected.

I don't usually think of fandom as serious business, but we are having enough issues with LJ without making a total mockery of the position on an advisory board they are offering their users -_-

So please, got vote.

bzzinglikeneon does a better job than I can do at work of summerizing issues but for me the bottom line is, it's a an actual position, with actual responsibilities, and yes LJ may not listen ever, but what chance do we have of the position beinf remotely taken seriously if we allow someone to fill the position merely as A JOKE *twitch*

Brandon and I loked at cars all day. His poor Truck, Bear, blew a headcasket, so he's gotta buy a new one.

Best part ever was the vintage Corvette dealership. So many pretties were there (hey if we are looking we might as well look at the good stuff, right?)
