AHHAHA! My artistic muse worked with me two days ago and last night. I'm so happy.

It is Pre-Crisis Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, back when Jason was also a trapeze artist and more or less had Dick's origin story. While amusingly derivative, it created an interesting connection between them that I thought would make for a cute picture (also as an aside I actually like this origin better, though I like the post-crisis emotional issues, but those could totally have been explained via his parents death IMHO, which then creates an interesting difference between him and Dick despite their similar traumas . . ANYWAY)

This is the picture that I said proved I often drew fanart based more on the fanfics I'd read than the series I was watching. I've been reading Batman fanfiction and watching Leverage.

So what do you get?

Sketches I did at Comic Con

  • Jul. 31st, 2009 at 10:51 AM
Kermit chilling
I took a small sketch book with me to comic con (5X 7-ish, smaller = lighter in my bag) because I knew I'd want to sketch while waiting in lines and such.
Here's most of the pages I sketched. A few aren't here, but they werne't worth scanning.

Sketches, Original, Snape(s), Harry, Hermione, Draco, Ron, Buck(s), Toro(s), Steve, and Jake Chambers, All G rated )

ZOMG! I drew Star Trek Fanart again.
And wht's more, it's X!-movie verse, not the ToS prime.
. . . I wanted to try something new. =P

Title: I'm not Drunk, I'm Russian
Characters: Sulu and Chekov
Rating: G
Media: Ball point pen, highlighters, sharpie
Notes: I doodled this at work. Hence the non erasable stuff.
I had no reference for Sulu ^^;; I kinda fudged it there. And I only had half a reference for Anton!Chekov (okay does that actor-character name coincidence amuse anyone else? I know spelling's different, but still)

NCIS Fanart

Warmth - Millennium
Bleh, tried to post a cool iamge I got in an e-mail but it kept mucking things up. Ah well.

Sorry guys, you are stuck with my quickly sketched and every more quickly colored (5 minutes this morning beofre work, whoo) NCIS chibi art.

Grandad's Hero
Yeah ok so I'm totally smitten by the idea of Bucky/Toro.

(click to make 'em larger)

This first one says, "Ani watched Teen Titans" I think *L*

I think they're cute together.

Bucky, who is Captain America's partner from the 40's, is probably the better known one, especially now given the whole Winter Soldier thing and given he's the New!Captain America.
He's the one in blue and red.

Toro is the Human Torch's partner.
Not Johnny Storm but a synthetic human who was also around in the 40's. Johnny just reused the name so that when my dad is telling me about The Human Torch I get confused *L*
He's the one in just shorts. And YES that is his canon costume. Probably because he (like the Torch) is all fire.

A ship 'em because of how they act in the New Avengers/Invaders mini series.
And because in the age old reason for shipping. Why not?
(yes ok, Toro gets married but only AFTER Bucky is presumed dead)

Ganked this from [info]itsbeenvery who posted her response here, whihc yuo should go see!

Sometimes it's okay to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five ficart-favorites you've written Drawn, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same. Everyone else in the world should do it...

Ok love the most huh. OMG only 5. Guh. 0.o

OK will the 5 I pick today (because tomorrow I'm sure it would be different)

Crossing Over Original Art
I very much like this original piece. It's slightly divergent enough from someof my others to stand out well and I think it's well balanced in terms of color and composition. And I just liked the creepy bugs and the weird little guy. It works for me.
It took a long time to get it to work for me, lots of paint and I had to make two tries at the bridge (it's collaged on) but in the end, it worked. I also like the atmosphere created here. It's . . wonky. It memorable. At least to me.

Autumn's Girl Harry Potter fanart
This watercolor portrait using my sister as a model for Lily (or Ginny) I also think came out well. I like that I pulled of a viable portrait in my looser style and the picture sill looks 100% finished to me. One thing with me looser style is sometimes thing like unfinished, but not this one. This one I nailed. Again it was a case of practice makes perfect as it took two tires before I got it. I think though it's also a wonderful example of what I can do with watercolor and ink, and a very "mature" style for me, as in it shows a maturity in my own style that I'm thrilled to see.

No Harm Done Battlestar Galactica Fanart
A 5 page Battlestar Glaactica comic that I did for [info]bsgflash. Ok so it's just the pencils, but I still think it's pretty gosh darn good and I'm impressed with myself for getting it done and for not wimping out. It's huge, it was involved, and I had to draw actor likeness, any one of those items can cause me to bail on art, that all three were there and I STILL got something done and by a deadline too, will I'm happy.
And I'm happy with how it came out. There are some areas I'd improve, but overall, I think the art holds. My lettering is utter crap, but whatever.

Spartans Assemble New Avengers Crack!Art
This is the most recent of the bunch, but the only think that intimidates me more than drawing real people is drawing superheros. Because they are so freaking muscular and I just don't . . . visualize people like that. So the fact that I feel I respectably pulled off a mostly naked Captain America, Iron Man, and Spiderman (Ok Spidey is covering up with his cape) just makes me gleeful. Plus it amuses me. A lot. It really really really amuses me. Especially Peter. I love Peter. This may just be a sketch, but it's one of the best surprise THIS WORKED pieces of art I've done this year.

Ok and after much debate my last pick is:

I am NOT a Turtle Harry Potter and TMNT Fanart
Because the Turtle Tots are just *too* cute and Voldemort is just *too* funny, and aesthetically the watercoloring on this really appeals to me. Which is funny because when I first did his, I wasn't thrilled with it, but now when I look at the watercolor technique here, I think it's really gorgeous, particularly the effects in the background. So it combines cute overdose, with funny, with good watercolor. I gotta love it.

Runners up were:
Olivia Benson
Collection of HP Characters
EEK!
Hermione Packing Her Trunk
Intimidation
Rat to Rat

I did some Sharpie Sketches at work today: Harry Potter, Battlestar Galactica, and Usagi Yojimbo )

I really enjoy just working with a sharpie. The line variation kinda sucks, but it's very interesting to have no ability to erase and just build something up.
I usually start with the eyes btw.

As always click to make bigger.
Usagi always hangs with Leo. I thought he should hang with Michelangelo.
To test his endurance *L* Poor Usagi. And here I bet he thought Ninjas were quiet!

And especially for [info]nasubionna who has been making AWESOME GB artwork recently!
A quick egon and Ray sketch.

Ok so I actually got a comic out tonight!
WHOO!
But it's not Battlestar Galactica. Battlestar Galactica has been hijacked by a little House MD cartoon.

Let Me Be Clear
Fandom House MD
Characters House, Wilson, the club of of common sense
Rating G

Let Me Be Clear )

I would have used a House icon for this but I have none.
Will fix this . . . maybe.
Doomed
You ever have that Looming Sense of Doom?

The alien, btw, is surprisingly simple to get the gist of. they're so organic really and not hard at all. You cant' tell how much I drew of it, but I drew more than I ended up showing.

true to the movie that =P

Harry Potter Law and Order crossover Fanart

Daddy's Girl
You remember way back weeks ago I mentioned i was thrilled that I'd begun drawing for TV-Show fandoms because it had increased my confidence in my art and inabled me to spontaneously draw a crossover fanwork that I'd not have had the guts to do just a year or so ago?

Right I enver actually posted that did I? *head desk*

Title: Hermione Takes on the Big Guns
Fandom: Harry Potter - Law and Order
Characters: Hermione and Jack McCoy
Rating: G
Notes: I'm posting the intial sketch and then the painting because I think they both became very different works of art in their own right.

Still think you have a case Jack? )

OH and! I'm sorry for my fail with the Dialy Richard:
But I'm working on it again. I scanned many things so hopefully I ahve some images re-stored up now ^__^
