Just some fun little things I did at the Star Wars Fan Days Convention last weekend. I also drew Spiderman and Mar Jane for a three year old (yes the three year old wanted Mary Jane. Granted he wanted the Green Goblin more, but I lacked a reference for that, and he informed me that I needed to draw Harry) Then I drew Batman for one of his cousins.
Funny story on that same three year old who knew Harry Osborn became the Green Goblin,
kijikun was in her Robin shirt and he looked at her and said: "That's a Red Shirt . . A letter! ROBIN!!"
Three years old. It was awesome.

So I kinda covered Preview Night.
I think honestly, I'm not sure I'd do it again. I think I'd rather have had the night to explore San Diego. Or deal with Jet leg. Getting the badge though, at that time, was a good idea.
Panels
( Thursday: The Noir Panel )
( Friday: Stargate U, Caprica, The Big Bang Theory, and Steve Epting )
( Saturday: Green Lanterns and Ray Bradbury )
( Artists Discussion, Exhibitor Discussions, And BSG Casts Members )
( Fan Meet ups )
Sketches Done for Me
So what did I mainly get a Comic Con? Sketches of Toro Raymond (with two exceptions).
I think next con I will get sketches of Steve Rogers, but this Con, it was Toro. Yes I am strange. All I can say is THANK GOD I had a photo reference *LOL*
Warning: Image heavy
( Sketches By: Mark McHaley,Nathan Fox, Bill Reinhold , Melissa Uran, Phillip Moy, Colleen Coover, Steve Epting, Reilly Brown, Joe Phillips, Gregg Schigiel, Chris Giarrusso, Dennis Calero, Steve Leialoha, Gattadonna, JE Loranzo, John Watkins-Chow, Jack Katz, Bill Tucci, Stan Sakai, and Peter Gross )
As for other stuff I bought, I got a Namor, Cap, and Human Torch print from Melissa Uran, a (Sexy!)Cap Print for Joe Phillips,a commission from Chris Giarrusso (for Ellyr_In_ink), a sketch book from Stan Sakai, Steve Epting, Steve Leialoha, and Mark McHaley, a signed copy of a special comic con edition of Supernatural law along with the cutest Mavis T-Shirt, a signed Copy of a Groo comic and some magnets(for my dad), a Mousegaurd Button, and several trades (5.00 each, can't pass that up. I got MARVELS!! huzzah!).
So yeah I did well I think ^__^
And I stayed away from 90% of all impulse buys thank gosh.
Uhhhh Photos coming later . . . maybe. I tend to suck at getting digital photos up now that it is not my own camera ^^

HEY PEOPLE GOING TO COMIC CON! (yes I'm shouting =P)
If you'd like to meet up with me at some point or something, I figure phones (that hopefully work, mine is wonky in hotels) are the best bet.
If you want, you can either put a number to call you on in the SCREENED comments, or leave a request for me to give you my number ^__^
Also if curious, here's my VERY tentitive schedual (tentitive because even if I really want to do something I may not get into the room)
Anything Bolded I *really REALLY* want to go to.
Yes I have stuff on there that overlaps. It's back up.
( THURSDAY )
( Friday )
( Saturday )
Note on Sunday, my plane leaves at 3:15. Otherwise, there's A LOT more I'd do. And I'm not even sure I can make what I listed but darn it, I will try!

So spent this weekend at a small local con.
Got some Invaders comics (*squeeee*), a few Captain America comics, Indiana Jones’s diary (For 8 bucks, take that you slimy vender who wanted to sell it to me for $50.00 at the last con! Thank you Kiji and Elly for saving me $42.00), and some of those really cute Super Squad figures (I have Captain America, unmasked Iron Man, Spiderman, and Jan, OMG JAN she’s so adorable). I also got a Bumblebee for Brandon.
Then I got Artwork from Brain Denham (the current X-Files comic artist and the guy who did Iron Man Hypervelocity). He couldn’t draw any of the X-Files actors (in case anyone was wondering about what artist can and can't draw at cons, there you go Actos no, random comic character yes), so I asked for a sketch of an X-Files case file on Toro ^__^ It’s fantastic in a cross fandom crack kinda way. He was utterly the nicest person too. And the biggest X-Files fan I’ve ever personally met, so it is fantastic he’s the artist on the comics. He was totally nice, tolerated loads of questions, and answered back enthusiastically. I just spent loads of time chatting away at his both about using photo references, and drawing Scully, and what made things hard, and working on the title, and X-Files in general. Really awesome man.
And I met lots of other artists. Bought a picture of The Rocketeer saving Indiana Jones from one artist (whose name I have but will look up, which is sad because he’s friends with Jake Ekiss , and I went to school with Jake). Anyway, we shot the breeze about watercolors and inking pens, and his black and white inking is phenomenal. I ENVY is ability to spot blacks. And I really really suck for forgetting his name. I think i got a card, so I'll hopefull be able to post his name . . . *head desk*
Then I talked with a up and coming artist, Brent Peeples (first book coming out next month, he’s trying to break into Marvel, best of look because his stuff, awesome, More awesome that what is currently in Iron Man in fact) who draw me the most amazing Vmapire!Steve Rogers. . .(don’t ask. Just know that Kiji and I have decided to collect vampire picture of Tony and Steve and cons). He was very much encouraging of me and keeps telling me to get a con table and get my name out. Again, very nice, very open and willing to give advice. Nice man and I hope he gets into marvel soon because sdkfsdfsdkjhs they need the talent. They really do. He pwns some of what’s coming out right now IMHO.
I’ll have links and scans to these artists as soon as I’m not at work (I don’t want to risk their art sites not meeting work approval, you know).
Also me Michael Hogan, who is made of rainbows and fluffy cotton candy.
He was a shock. I didn’t expect one of the major BSG actors to be at a teeny tiny local con (it’s not even really Dallas it’s Richardson, you have never heard of Richardson have you, unless you are from around her).
But, no really, Mr. Hogan is one of the sweetest guests I’ve ever met at a con. He was so happy, and nice, and genuinely happy to be their talking to fans. I was very much impressed by the man.
I was also impressed by how little he looks like Tigh in real life. Ok physically, yes, he looks like him, but in terms of physical bearing, he’s as relaxed and friendly, and unassuming, and approachable a star as I’ve ever met at a con. I kinda thought he’d at least be a little gruff, but not remotely, not even after the trip from heck trying to get from Houston to Dallas. Heck he laughed (in a good way) when I explained the signature was for my husband, and then he asked if I liked the show and I was like” well I like the old show . . ., it’s kinda a joke between my and my husband”. And then I told him that I had seen some of the new show and he was absolutely phenomenal in it.
His entire face lit up like a little kid who just got unexpected candy. Seriously you’d think I was the only person who’d told him this. He thanked me for that and said he was just thrilled, as an actor, to get a show that was more like a 5 year movie than a TV series, and that the whole experience had just been so much fun for him.
He signed my husband’s DVD. I felt bad Brandon couldn’t meet him because Brandon is the TNS BSG fan, and had really wanted to meet him, but sadly, had to work Sunday, and the trip from heck kept Mr. Hogan from being at the con Saturday. But the DVD is now signed “To Brandon: Good Hunting Michael Hogan (I presume that is what the sig say. Hopefully is not signing other people’s names).
So yes, very much impressed by the man.
Mark Sheppard was also there.
And OMG WHY F’list WHY! How is it you guys never told me is was the pyrokenitic in the X-File? I love that episode and it’s one of the stand out character in my memory. Sadly, I never caught him at his table and was therefore, unable to get my husband his autograph (which disappointed me because I think Brandon wanted his more, he really like the BSG Lawyer).
Howe ever I figure we’ve a better chance of catching him at a small con again with like only 10 people in line, than we do Michael Hogan (ya, did I mention that? I spent almost no time in line. THAT was nice).
So yes, that’s my con summery. Picture hopefully/maybe/I think coming soon.
Yay.

So
ellyr_in_ink and
kijikun went to a comic convention yesterday. It was a small local one so it was fun and not too overwhelming or anything.
I babled like a pathetic fan girl at Berni Wrightson again.
God hi stuff is amazing. He signed some of his conceptual work that was reprinted the the Making of Ghostbusters book that I have, and I bought a little ashcan sketchbook from him, which he signed.
I also met Jake Ekiss and another illustrator friend of his (whose name I'll have to double check on)
I went to school with him we found out. We shot the breeze about the Profs at UNT good and bad for a while. IT was funny.
The other thing that was funny, I went to school with him and I can't afford him (well I could afford a 5.00 pencil sketch which he graciously did YAYs) So that was fun and good luck to him making it in the industry.
Also met Mark Brooks and pure coincidence, Elly had let me buy a graphic novel in which he'd done the Spiderman just last night (let me buy it because she found it and also kinda wanted it but it had a good Ultiamte Capt story in it and I beged). Anyway, he signed that book, but sadly wanted 50.00 for a character head sketch in pencil. With everyone else doing those from "free" to about 10.00 we figured nah, not so much wanting.
Got a few more Ashcan books that were kinda spiffy. Also between Elly Kiji and I, we ow have a mini Vampire!Tony collection.
Yes this is what we asked the artist to sketch yes *L*
Except once, when I asked for a sketch of Steve Rogers, but now mask.
At which the poor artist looked at me and said
"So you want me to draw a blond guy?"
That amused me. He through in some chest so he could draw the star and it was clear who it was, which was sweet of him.
Fun times.
I really kinda want to go back today, but I must do wedding stuffs :(
Then meet with Brandon, so that is good ^___^

Is it me or is the Marvel Comics event "Ultimatum" basically summed up as 'Rocks fall everybody dies' but without rocks.
Has anyone ever ever seen X The Movie? It was an anime movie based on the CLAMP comic X. The movie was just awful. They had 14+ main characters who basically had to all die in something like an hour and a half. So there was just . . a lot of WTF deaths over and over and over and not much plot (btw, has Clamp *ever* finished this story?).
Ultimatum so far is like that.
Except it proves the Tony/Steve slash, at least for me (and Elly), and had a nice Hawkeye to Hank moment.
In other news, re-reading the old Iron Man comics (or being told summaries of them by Elly at least) totally takes the edge off the current Iron Man comic arc because dude, Tony is always loosing his entire company end ending up on the run. I bet there's a company SOP (Standers of Practice: ie form telling you what to do in certain situation) on what to do if crazy people buy out the company and/or Tony ends up on the run from the US Government.
In other news . . .
I still have not read the new JKR book. It came out so close to Christmas that I thought for sure it would be a present but it wasn't (I think years of my getting duplicate HP stuffs scared people away because everyone though someone else would get that for me). I've to remember to pick up a copy.
I'd do my usual checking Half-Priced, but sense the proceeds go to charity, I'll buy it from Target.
Also thinking of something to do for Azkatraz. I volunteered to be on some panels, so I'll see how that goes.
I'm also thinking of maybe doing a presentation of the Hp Art Project (including only art I have permission to include) or something. I'd love to have been able to show the book BUT again, there's a permission issue, plusI don't think it'll be done by then anyhow.

So I can finally post about the convention at some point.
Also,
AZKATRAZ

In SanDiego Francisco!!?
I can't beleive I forgot it was San Fran seeing as how I want to do Rremus/Sirius art for the con =P
Who is maybe going? I'm on the fence leaning toward going.
I discussed it with the Fiancee and he thinks that hey, if I can pay I should go (Not that he has the finale word but given we are paying for a wedding I figured he should have *some* significant amount word ^^;;)

HP FANARTISTS and anyone else interested in a good cause
Have you heard of The Harry Potter Alliance?
This is *not* an Alliance of the HP fandom but rather a not for profit organization dedicated to helping expand the lessons about community, love, and serving a bigger and better a cause from the real of HP fiction into the realm of our real world.
You can read their Mission Statement here
Which you know is pretty fricken amazing.
I had the luck to learn of this by running into Andrew Slack at Portus and he asked if I could help bring their cause to the attention of the Fanartist Community.
They need help from the fanart community for utilitarian things, like banners for their site, banners to spread the word and other such things but also, we can be used to help their cause and he'd love brainstorming about that.
And if you think about it, fanartists already have done several charity auctions that would easily fit in with the HPA.
art2therescue (Tsunami Victim fund raiser) and HPQFAC (Aids fund raiser)just to name two. Maybe in the future, with HPA's help charity art auctions like these can raise even more money.
So if you are interested respond to this post with the following information

If you are going to Comic Con check out Stan Sakai's post here
His daughter is collecting teddy bears to donate to the South Pasadena Fire and Police Departments, which are then given to comfort children after traumatic experiences, such as home fires or domestic disturbance calls.
He's looking for people to bring New Teddy bears to his both at the San Diego con. So if you are going bring a bear.
he's the creator of Usagi Yojimbo btw and I'd suggest going to his booth anyway as he's a really wonderful guy and amazing artist, but now, you can go and help out a worthy cause too.

However, I thought I’d relate to stories that don’t have photos to illustrate them and they’re just kinda cool convention stories:
( Portus Story One )
( Portus Story Two )
So those are my two Portus stories.
Hopefully photos . . . I don’t know.
I’m going to go to the midnight showing of The Dark Knight tonight so I make no promises about getting anything up tonight or in the morning. I’m not even sure I’ll get myself up in the morning 0.o
Notices:
You can purchase some the artwork I did for Portus here. This sale last only until 8/15/2008 or until supplies run out. Which ever happens first.
If you EVER contacted me about being in the HP-Art-Porject PLEASE check this link to see if I'm waiting to hear from you The waiting list is alo VERY open.
Speaking of Conventions:

Ack! Sorry the Portus Post is so long in coming. Thing is I want to make it with my Photos and I can't get my Photos off my digital Camera. I lost the UPS card. I have an external memory card reader but . . . I can't get my memory card out of my camera *blush*
BUT! What I can post is Artwork! Yay!
Except . . . ARGHHH I failed to scan the art I was GIVEN this morning *Cry*
So this is Portus Art Post Part 1 now, in which I post my own doodles.
When I get home I'll upload my page O' doodles and Makani's Peter. Not how I wanted it but I'm tired of not posting Portus things.
So here's what I sketched at Portus (usually these were sketched there, and colored at home, or in one case totally re-modified at home)
( LILY RUN!: Sharpie and colored pencil sketch )
( EVERYBODY Loved Portus: Aka Sam Anders and Kara Thrace dress as Tonks and Remus: Colored Pencil sketch )
( Apollo and Starbuck Stickies: Technical Pen )
Ok so that's all the art I did at or relating to Portus.
Not as much as TWH, but then I didn't have as much down time as TWH.
Actually, my one big regret of the convention is not getting more art done but especially not getting more art from other people.
I missed passing the sketchbook around and getting doodles from everyone as we did at The Witching hour. Due to time constraints and all, I didn't get a lot of art :(
However If you painted at my presentation or have one of my sketches, link me! I wanna see!

Ok so Portus updates quickly before I go to work:
PORTUS WAS GREAT!!
But I've alrady started forgetting names *ARGHHHHHH* Please please if you met me there poke me. I'm pretty much down to if I wrote your name down, I remember it. If not. I've forgotten it. Except Sundancekid, because my dad talks about that movie all the time.
My panel went REALLY well (ok I think it did anyway) I think I pulled off what I wanted to, I got through my WHOLE presentation without going too crazy or needing to rush the end (though only because I had two hours not an hour and a half like I thought) and more than 5 people came OMG YAY (5 people came to my TWH presentation =P)
Artswap also went stupendously well. Thank you everyone who sopped by. I know I looked crazy toward the end but I was having SO SO SO much fun!
next time I will charge more for sketches though *L*
I saw the most amazing MWPP fanvid. Just WOW. Seriously WOW. Blown away and will be looking for more.
Squee over the art room, Squee over the vendor room, Squee over the common room.
I got sorted into Ravenclaw.
Squee over the Ball. Squee to the volunteers!
Thank you for letting me change in your room.
Oh and the "Have you let Harry into your life joke" (Ok that wasn't exactly the joke, that I wrote but that is more the proper joke) is because running at the same time just down the hall was a convention for Missionaries who the majority seemed to be strict followers of the bible and therefore most felt witchcraft and such including Harry Potter was not to be approved.
Now let me say, everyone I met was very nice> I was in a cloak, I had a wand. There was no mistaking what I was attending, but I bumped into three or so people and they were all nice and didn't like start in on me or anything. I even meandered into their con to check it out (I have godparent's who were missionaries).
IT seems though more than a few people got preached too over the course of the con.
And not in a good way.
So it kinda became a joke. You know they come up and are all "Have you found Jesus yet?" so we were all "Have you found Harry yet?" I don't know if anyone actually said that, but it was threatened and the amazingly wonderful volunteer who let me change for th ball in her room and who I am doing a complete injustice to be forgetting her name considering how much we talked over the course of the con wants to make cafepress shirts that say that and I would so get one I think *L*
PICTURES COMING SOON!

Oh and yes there were left over convention art cards so yes I will be putting those up for sale here just to sell out of the prints I made for portus.
Once those are gone, that'll be all the prints ever made of each of these images except the Luna print, which has always been for sale on my Deviantart page. She is jsut discounted through me (and I make all the money instead of me getting less than half which SERIOUSLY I need to loose the DA print account I'm thinking. If I actually get serious about selling, I can do better than DA).

Leslie Combemale like my art. *GLEEEE*
She represents Mary GrandPre and she liked my art (she only saw the four pieces on display at Portus, but she liked them and I'm thrilled). She also though the HP_Art-Project was cool and worthy.
Mrs Combemale was presenting at Portus today and via the goodness of human nature I got to see her/speak with her/and kinda assist her during the presentation actually (I guarded the art and got to say "please step back" and "DO NOT TOUCH THE ART" many times).
It was nice to talk a short bit (she was very busy) about the artistic inspiration that Harry Potter creates, because the media focuses so much on the fanfiction and the reading aspect and all that it was BRILLIANT to hear such an art focused event and see so many people just taken with the art.
Mrs. Combemale was so nice too, very enthusiastic, very giving, sweetest lady really. And she says the Harry Potter fans are the nicest fans to deal with (she also represents Star Wars and Lotr and other such artists). SO FANDOM! We may seem wanky, but we are considered to be the nicest fandom to interact with in this case and I think that speaks volumes about the reality of HP being a nice fandom versus well . . the fandom's internet reputation.
So yes, I had a wonderful time. More than I really know how to put into words.
Thank you to EVERYONE who made my meeting her today possible, thank you thank you thank you.
I just got so much out of it and I was so happy to be able to go. Really really really made my day.
Oh and I I'm going to own Mary Grandpre art.
*SQUEEE* 200.00 BUT SO WORTH IT.
I can now not buy ANYTHING else at the convention 0.o
Well not anything else big . . or two many tiny things that add up to something big.
I must have money for artswap though. I mean what the heck. Let make the HP cons about getting art, not stuff. Because the art has always been such a large and important part of this fandom for me.
BTW, again the art room, guys the art room is amazing. The 2d and 3d artwork just astounds me. There are Dolls, animals, Lion's heads, a potions Cabinet (an HP installation piece OMG COOL) I just can't put into words how nice it looks.
It blows the A-kon art gallery out of the water. Not just because of the art but because of the design and time that went into adorning the art room. The staff just knocked this outta the water and they deserve lots of love for it.

OH MY GOSH!!!
I just got back from dropping my art off at Portus. Didn't run into anyone I know well. Ran into Puma, who I know by name. The art gallery staff is a lovely bunch of people.
They need major Kudos.
God y'all the hotel is GORGEOUS. I don't think I've ever sen a prettier convention Hotel. WOW.
I was sad to go. Someone offered to sneak me into the opening ceremonies, but as I didn't pay for 'em I declined. I also promised I'd be home by 8:00 ^^''
Some More artwork I did for Portus:
Neville, Luna, Hermione

These are three of the four remarque sketches I did. They are basically surprise extras. If you win the art in auction, one of these will be taped to the back.
The fourth unseen one is one is a portrait of Harry and on the back of "Stickies." It not scanned because I totally failed to do four sketches and only did three, and the Gallery staff kindly allowed me to knock out a fourth (black and white) sketch before they put "Stickies" up.
I'll have one more Portus art post at least because there are 19 stickies and I only ever put 6 up, so I'll put the rest up when I feel like formatting all those scans 0.o
Also photos.
OMG I Chrissy found my digital camera. Its been missing for TWO YEARS. f course I've long since lost the charger *head desk* gonna see about getting one and maybe having a digital camera Saturday which would ROCK.

Look I have a business card.
This is what I did rather than finish my outline last night. I really need to finish my outline.
Chrissy says she'll go over it before I hadn't it out at Portus but that requires that I finish it *head desk*
Seriously, I just about have everything ready for Saturday (the only day I'll be there *sad*) BUT the outline *shakes head*
Tonight .. . I'll probably clean the whole house rather than work on the outline *head desk*
Now I'm off to take pain killers and a hot bath before work.
And curse God.
These are eight separate cards 7/12 by 5 inches. I don't know how much I'll be selling 'em for. I do know I'll sell individuals and then a few sets for slightly cheaper than if you bought one of each (because that is how sets work right =P). Not even sure yet how many I'll make. Depends on what I can afford versus what I think I can sell. They'll be on card stock paper.
Kinda excited. I've never done this before ^__^
Oh and yeah they are exclusive to Portus.
You know I draw the initial sketches for these almost 3 years ago? They needed some tuning up (especially James OMG James looked AWFUL). It was kinda interesting comparing the old sketches to the tune ups. I figured tuning these up was way faster than whole knew pictures!
I've got 4 more actually, but they were so generic I figured I couldn't explain who they were without infringing on a trademark =P
I think the ones above are generic enough that I'm not infringing on a trademark (which means I can have them in the Art Swap), but at the same time an HP fan can guess who I might have been inspired by ^__^

I just spent from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm working on the Hp Art Project.
*collapse*
Now I have to work on my Watercolor Workshop for Portus.
If I hadn't already worked on it, I'd almost want to pull out I'm so frazzled, but what the heck I can babble about watercolor and it'll be fun. It's mostly demonstration anyway. And I only feel like that right now because of STRESS.
I need to go buy the paper and chop it up and I need to make sure the cheap-o watercolors work will enough to have them at the demo to be played with.
I did finish some examples of paintings painted with specific watercolor techniques.
( Watercolor Technique Examples in the form of: Remus, Tonks, Lily, Snape, Luna, Neville, Ginny, and Sirius )
These are 8 separate pieces, and the originals will actually be fore sale at the watercolor presentation if you want one. They 10.00. at the workshop.
They'll 15.00 at the art swap (unless the Portus team determines they are not general enough, but hopefully they are ^^). Yes, yes I am kinda bribing people to come to my watercolor demo? Why?
Also, is anyone else gonna be in Swap at Portus?
