6th-Jul-2008 12:05 am - A Brief Version of the DW Reaction Post I Would Write If I Wasn't So Bloody Exhausted
Went to see Get Smart tonight. NOT the film to watch two hours after finishing DW and being all full of thoughts and wanting to talk about it, seriously. Cute film, lovely Batman and Hellboy trailers, all made better by two glasses of Reisling, but, still.

Doctor, Donna, et al )

5th-Jul-2008 11:46 pm - DONE
It's.... OVER! My drawers aren't quite as full as they used to be. I still need to decide whether I want to keep my ballet leotards and pink and white pantyhoses. It's not like I dance anymore, but they still look new. I do need to throw out the old pointe shoes, though. Ew.

Anyway, I'm going to donate all this ) this to the Salvation Army tomorrow (not the bras, it'd be like donating panties. Kind of ick. Plus the padded ones are completely shit). Think they'll be happy? :D There's even more behind that pile in front. I might get crap when mum sees my drawers half-empty but WHATEVER. See, she's the woman who bullies me into keeping stuff I don't even wear anymore.

P.S. Can you find the Marsupilami?

Says I to Bill yesterday: I feel like baking something. What would you like?
Says Bill to I: Apple pie.
Says I to Bill: Ah, that'll take a few days. Because the pie crust has to sit overnight in the fridge. And we don't have any apples.
Says Bill to I: I can wait.

Today, there were apples. And pie crust. And therefore, pie.

No recipe today - figure everyone has one. ('Cept maybe for pie crust.) However, I did take pictures. Of the pie. And of Bill eating the pie.

Wow. Bill REALLY likes apple pie. )
5th-Jul-2008 09:40 pm - I got my first ink done today!
Just got back an hour or so ago. It's on my upper back, right below the knob of my spine, and says "sic itur ad astra", which means "Thus do we reach the stars", with a star under it. Very happy, and very sore :D I won't say it hurt more than I expected, but it's hard to grasp how it will feel until you're actually there. My pain threshold isn't all that great, and the parts over my spine hurt like a bitch. I'm still very happy that I decided to get it done. My mother, on the other hand, is less than thrilled :D

This isn't a good pic, I took it myself in the mirror, so it looks a bit off-centre, but this is what I have right now:

Best thing ever: Boomer's strip club, up the street. We got a picture of the sign. XD
5th-Jul-2008 07:52 pm - Bedroom update
Halfway done with the cleaning. Woot! Peek in ) Considering that I was moved twice into different bedrooms and that my old old one was much much smaller, the old clutter was... airy.

Ahem, anyway. Stop making lame excuses, Alex. Now I have to attack the drawers underneath.

Just finished reading In Cold Blood the other day - spectacular. I was mildly unimpressed (that is, I thought it was a bit over-rated) until about 3/4 of the way through, but the last quarter completely took my breath away.

Summer book count: 10, I think.

DOWNLOAD FASTER DOCTOR WHO, COME ON NOW!

A man in the dress of a priest and with all the right documents offered himself to the Vatican authorities for confessional duty in St.Peter's (where there are dozens of confessionals active at all times, in several languages). However, the Vatican security men, used to priests of all kinds and colours, smelled something funny about the volunteer. A quick check with the Italian police revealed that the man was a faker who had already been caught on several occasions.
5th-Jul-2008 12:01 pm - Weekends in Tinseltown, Part I
Told you there was a Part I.

A little over a month ago, on the internal Disney Animation website, someone posted information about a concert at UCLA where the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra would accompany a silent film, and for which Disney employees got a rather generous discount. It had been quite some time since I'd been to a concert, and the discounted tickets as well as the novelty of seeing a silent film with live orchestra convinced my sister and me that this could be worth taking time out for. We decided to make a day of it, and take advantage of the commute to do a Hollywood Heritage Tour, taking pre-freeway surface streets all the way from the studio district of Burbank through the hills, into Hollywood, then down the famous stretch of Sunset Blvd (past what would be 10086, if such an address existed) to UCLA, where we wandered around for a while gawping at the fantastic architecture, taking photos in the golden light of the setting sun, and looking for a bathroom that was open after 6 on a Saturday. When the doors finally opened we found our seats and generally settled in for an evening of culture just like any other concert we'd been to, with the slight exception that one of the speakers introducing the event was Dustin Hoffman. The lights went down, the orchestra tuned up, the projector started ...

5th-Jul-2008 02:46 pm
So I guess I should post about one squeal-inducing thing before the next one comes along Doctor Who, I am looking at you.

So like I mentioned before, I had a Wicked Good Idea,™ which involved Jillybean and I seeing Spring Awakening. A few weeks ago she mentioned that she wanted to go and I thought that if she could, she should try and see it before July 19th, because some (more) of the original cast would be leaving then. The problem was that she was going to be busy on weekends between then and July 19th, so I thought, "Ooh, how about Thursday night?," since we got Friday off. No go. "So how about Wednesday night, and take Thursday off?" Which worked quite well.

So Wednesday I end up waking up at 4am, mostly due to excitement/nerves. I ended up not getting everything done that I was hoping to, but that's no big deal. Jillian also thought that I wouldn't be able to get in to work when she does (she usually clocks in at 6:45 and I'm usually there closer to 7:30), but I ended up pulling in as she was walking to the door, so there you go. So we have a whooooole day's worth of work (nothing big, but it was a SPDES Wednesday, plus I ran those things that Bob Fromme brought on Tuesday night) and we did a quick change in the bathroom and then bolted out the door at 3:15 on the dot. We were trying to catch a 3:50 train in Beacon, which was ambitious, but totally doable! I was surprised, actually. Also surprising, we managed to find parking meter spaces in the actual parking lot, instead of way the fuck up on the hill by the police station.

The ride in was pretty uneventful, largely due to my planning. You see, the day before I stopped by Wal*Mart (and I haven't bought anything from them since college, no lie) to pick up a headphone splitter, so we watched Voyage of the Damned on my iPod. It's what I watched on my last time down to NYC, only I must have missed some of it, because I definitely didn't remember all of the ending. From there we went to the Friday's in Times Square (sadly, there was no naked Cowboy) and then went to pick up our tickets. It was sort of funny, because we go inside, I pick up our tickets, head back outside and sort of stand there wondering what we're going to do for the next hour. I glance both ways down the sidewalk...and there's like, five members of the cast, hanging out by the stage door with this older woman with a camera *L* Objectively, it made sense, but it still surprised me *g* So I pointed them out to Jillian, and she was very interested in which one was the "one with the ass." I think it ended up being Lilli Cooper, Skylar, Kyle, Brian, Alexandra, and Gerard.

So still, an hour to kill, so we wandered around in a bit of a circle and ended up finding the Hershey's store. I say "found" because I could have sworn that the Hershey's store was near the M&M's store, only I couldn't see it. This was because we were actually on Seventh and not Broadway, when I try and make it a point to walk down Broadway (most of that area [and most of NYC as a whole, I think] is set up in a grid, but Broadway is weird in that it's sort of a diagonal), because it's a) more interesting and b) helps me figure out where I am. We bought some stuff from there, then walked back to the theater and got online.

And I was promptly flustered, because WTF, there was a boy who was like, thirteen tops, standing in line. And maybe I'm old fashioned/a prude, but Spring Awakening is definitely 16+ material. Aaaaand it just so happened that that boy ended up sitting a row behind us, four seats closer to center. Wtf wtf WTF.

To briefly summarize the show: Jillian loved it and said that that was probably the best idea that I've ever had ♥ We were sitting in the second row. During the loud numbers it felt like the drums were my heartbeat and I could barely breathe. It was ridiculous in all the best ways. One day I will sit in the front row, I think. Eryn Murman was Thea, once again, but I prefer her as Martha (and this was the first time that I could see that they actually do makeup her arm). I found myself watching people that weren't Kyle Riabko. Not that he's not good at his job, and not that he's not pretty, but I have a thing for watching the background. Blake Bashoff started to quietly cry during Blue Wind, and it broke my heart ♥ I wish there was a good picture of Emma Hunton during Totally Fucked, because she looks just like Spiderman *L* Sitting that close meant that I could actually pick out individual voices, because I could hear them unamplified. In this case, that was mostly Blake Bashoff, Blake Daniel, Brian Johnson, and Alexandra Socha. I think the last time I went was better, but it was a hella good show ♥ It turned out that Jillian now has a thing for Matt Shingledecker, which sort of surprises me, given how hard he was to see from our seats *g* I, however, remain a faithful Gerard Canonico fangirl (and find his playing air drums with his microphone both hilarious and adorable).

After, Jillybean didn't want to stick around to stage door, which was fine by me. I think that that's something that everyone should do at some point, but I let her pick :) That also meant that we made it back to the station with plenty of time to spare to catch the 11:12 train. It was early enough that a) I had time to get a drink and b) Starbucks was still open. It was sort of weird though, because I usually end up catching the same trains at the same times, but this time I was on different ones, so the track numbers weren't the same. It was especially funny because we were on Track 27 coming home, but there were only signs for Track 26 and Track 28. The one we wanted was right in the middle, so we got on the right train. We ended up with seats facing backwards, but it wasn't so bad. Also funny, the guy sitting ahead of us was on the wrong train...but only realized it as the train started to move. Whoops.

We listened to my OBCR on the way back on my iPod (Jillybean bought the CD during intermission), which was fun. The ride was pretty uneventful, although I always get antsy, worrying that I'm going to miss my stop. I never have though, and didn't that time either :) Jillybean ended up following me out to Route 9 or something, and I hopped on 84 and came home to a decided lack of fanfare. I think I pretty much came home, got a drink, and climbed into bed *L*

And now I'm anxiously awaiting Doctor Who to show up on YouTube :x

5th-Jul-2008 08:03 pm - And go back to the kitchen sink
Have spent the day cleaning up Zlatan. He was getting all full and clunky, so have been reorganising all my folders and moving them to CDs. Only, because I am paranoid and sceptic, I have made back-up copies of all the CDs. And, um, back-up copies of the back-up CDs. *facepalm* I really could do with an external hard drive. Any recommendations?

Have also been unable to stop playing S.O.S. by the Jonas Brothers. The feckin' Jonas Brothers. That's, like, über McBusted. I am so ashamed of myself. [Edit: Oh, Christ, it's even worse than that. I had never heard of them before this, but it's been on the radio a lot. I had NO IDEA. *bangs head against wall*]

Have, last of all, been tweaking and posting those layouts I was on about. I'm quite proud of these ones; they're clean and simple, and I've never done fluid-width before.

Am now trying to catch up with Doctor Who. I've missed loads due to the bloody Euros - I kept meaning to catch up on iPlayer, but never had the time. They have 'Turn Left', 'The Stolen Earth' and 'Journey's End' up now, so will be watching all three tonight. Am quite excited.
5th-Jul-2008 07:58 pm - A copy of the comment I sent to the BBC about their TV program "last choir standing"
This is the worst music programme you have yet made. It is a genuine horror. For every minute of music there are five minutes of squeals, postures, overacting, natter, and nonsense. Where the Hell did the BBC get the idea that music is not enough to keep an audience interested? Are you morons, or do you think we are?
5th-Jul-2008 02:13 pm - Character Hate
I'm sure each and everyone one of us likes at least one character that is actively hated by more than a couple of people.

Provided they're only hating on the character, and not fans of that character, and aren't shoving their hate of that character in your face (you can still enjoy the character and the fandom), does it really matter that much if someone hates a character you like?

Generally speaking, I'd rather have someone hate a fictional person than a real person. It may hurt the author if you hate their character(s), but you hope that the author can handle people not liking characters they want them to like. Even when the reasons they hate them may seem (or are) wrong.

Usually I'm on the "keep your character hate to yourself" side of the fence, but I think unless the person is saying character X is horrible and therefore anyone who likes character X is horrible, or making it impossible for you to enjoy the fandom (you can't avoid them) then you just have to shrug it off (or, someone doesn't like the things you like, get over it).

Unrelated, but I finished watching Rome. When they switched to older Octavian, I was so weirded out by Simon Woods' acting, b/c it was very intense (but good, it worked IMO). And then I remembered I'd seen him before, in Pride and Prejudice as Mr. Bingley. And the contrast between the two of us way he portrays Mr. Bingley and Octavian is hilarious. One is all "Hello! I'm ever so happy! :D:D:D My hair is happy too! It says hello, kind sir, to you! :3:3:3" and the other says "JSYK, I WILL BEAT YOU, BUT ONLY BECAUSE IT GIVES ME SEXUAL PLEASURE. :| MY HAIR IS IN TURNS RED, BLOND, AND BROWN. :| I WILL, MOST LIKELY, CREEP YOU THE FUCK OUT. GOOD NIGHT, MY DEAR. :|"

A poll for your troubles:

I was thinking about the appeal of drinking vs. the appeal of consuming other drugs, and of writers that are/were drunks vs. writers that are/were addicted to other drugs, and then of those groups, which produced better literature. Not so much literature that centred around their experiences with alcohol or other drugs, but their writing abilities in general. Which, when you think about that way, their use of alcohol or other drugs shouldn't factor into whether or not their could write, but let's just take the poll, shall we? You will not be taken to task at the end of you days for participating in a faulty poll. And if you are, I hope you are drunk or stoned at that time.

So! Alcoholic writers vs. all other drugs writers NOT including tobacco smoking, b/c its inclusion would muck up the results of this faulty poll. I really wish we could have poll results display in pie-chart form. I am going to submit that as a serious proposal to the place on LJ we submit stupid stuff we want.

5th-Jul-2008 10:45 am - My everything hurts :_:
I went to AX yesterday, got there about 9 am and left 2 am the next morning. My body is just really sore, and I woke up with a coughing fit.
I dont know much about medicine or what not but i know i often have coughs and problems with my lungs. I was put on these five day antibiotic pill called Azithromycin (azithromacin monohydrate). Also take 200mg of tessalon 3 times a day which is meant to calm the cough. (also while on these medications i cannot take my Protonix). This morning I again started t wheeze and feel funny. I have an apointment on the 14th so if these symptoms are still occuring i will inform my phasisan.
I think am going to do my recolection of the day backwards! HAHA
I met up with a lot of people and had tons of fun. BUT i was bored during most of the day, it wasnt till proably around 7 pm when i started to have crazy fun.
Areound 930 or so Spoon Ari David and I had to go all the way by where PMX was last year to find somewhere to eat. >.<. Most places were closed because of the holiday. After dinner we went to the sex shop next door. It was scary, there was a big black guy working in it and it made it quite aqward. Usually in shops like that I see women only employees, who usually have that easy approach feel to them. Nope this was a big scary black guy who never even said "HI" but followed us thoughout the store. Danny had a hell of a time finding the hotel and we left. OMG CRAZY HOMELESS PERSON TRIED TO OPEN OUR CAR DOOR! I was so scared i wanted to cry! We made it home safe and unmugged though <3
I did some other random cool things at AX. I was in this cool davart supported art contest where the topics were really hard to draw like "Don't ask, what is three?" and "Cat boys are creepy.". I got a glow in the dark Dev lanyard out of it and a red bull which I gave to David because he probably needed it!
Passed out fliers for Pinguino. Met Digimon cosplayers. They cosplayed DIGIMON! First season! I gave my screen name to the Izzy cosplayer and he lives in my area so I hope one of them Ims me soon <3. I wanna make digimon cosplay for Jonny and me now <3.
Seeing Lauren and Vicky was cool too <3. Lauren and I went hunting down Yaoi, and Lauren bought this cute Phoenix pin that was labled "Biohazard". HAHA
Met Jessica's new boyfriend and OMG I love them together they are so cute! <3 OTP. I think ill like go do some fanart or something HURR.
I was cosplaying Utena for a while, where i got mistaken for Sakura from naruto twice and as a gundum charater like 5 or 6 times :_:. Seriously sad!
Never found the arcade.
Thank you everyone for spending time with me <3. It would have felt weird not to go. Especially not going to fanime and then no AX.
5th-Jul-2008 12:58 pm - Doctor Who Day!
I'm getting ready to leave for work, but I've left instructions for my mom so that I'll hopefully have the new episode waiting for me when I get home. (Hey, four weeks of her not getting it right . . . my luck's bound to change.) It's a really pretty day out, so I'm hoping everyone will be out eating leftover BBQ and sleeping off hangovers instead of going out to eat at Shoney's. Because I'd really like to get home early for once.

See you on the other side!
