There are a lot of covers where Nazi/goblin/monsters are threatening Toro with burning things.
I'd say that's pretty dumb of them, but then, Toro is the one who can't seem to recall he is IMMUNE TO FLAME


Actually, I think he just has a rescuing fetish. Aside from Golden Age cover where he's tied up and being rescued fom situations he should not have been helpless in, there's also the 2008 issue of Avenger/Invaders where Toro just sits about waiting to be rescued even though he is totally able to rescue himself.

I'm not extrapolating either he tells Bucky "I waited as long as I could."
So Toro was just kicking back waiting for Bucky to save his butt, even though he could (and did when Bucky took too long) save himself.

So . . . The Marvel 5 issue event Reborn (in which the bring back Steve Rogers supposedly)

First issues came out yesterday.
How is it?

I'm sorry, I picked up the Avenger/Invaders on the assumption it would stop sucking as badly as it was sucking at some point, and was burned for 12 issues. I ain't doing that again.
Especially at $4.00 an issues.

I'll check 'em as they come, but I'm taking this title off my pull list.
That is how bad this comic sucked.

It's so bad I almost hope this isn't really how they are bringing Steve back.

This comic sucked so bad that I then read Matt Fractions's Iron Man and couldn't tell which was worse -_-

Well okay . . . Iron Man won, but only because it lacked the AWESOME that was Steve and Bucky's D-Day outfits.
Those D-Day outfits were the best damn thing in the whole book.


I do not believe Brubaker planned this.
Oh and yes, Brian Hitch's art was way rushed.

Non Spoiler Thoughts on Avenger/Invaders 12 of 12

Well last issue of this train wreck is out at last.
I expected/hope there would be a point to this mini series beyond "lets have the Invaders and Avengers beat each other up for NINE issues then find a plot and cram it into the last three issues."

And yes there is actually a point and ummmmm okay I'm jumping up in down in glee but I do not think this point was worth the 12 issues. I will go more into this point when I talk spoilers.

I think they also wanted there to be another point about heroes and sacrifice and such, but the writing was pretty convoluted so it was sorta painful to read at times. And it was like trying to find a plot/point to Dragonball Z really (Have you noticed I think the fights were too long and overshadowed everything else? I can't say enough how bad I find the pacing in this mini series to be and I LIKED Secret Wars).


I'm sorry to say that now, having read the last issue, I really can't rec this to anyone but the most die hard Invader fans, or anyone who was really desperate to see Steve interacting with Tony every now and again. It just doesn’t have much going for it. If it's cheap, like 5.00 or so at Half Price books, then sure, buy ti for fun.
However, for my money, neither the art nor the storytelling warrant spending big bucks on this. In fact I don't want to add up what buying all 12 issues cost me this year because I think I'd be depressed.

Issue 12 did get back to having decent art, so that was nice. But yeah, as I expected, the ending was jumbled, quickly done and kinda boring. The whole way they stopped Red Skull was, I think, a plot from care bears that they borrowed. There was no build, I didn't care, and geezus this guy can't write Spiderman to save his life.

Part of the problem, I think, was the main drama at this point was "will Bucky change his future or not?"

Ummmm this wouldn't even be that much of a question even IF this series were not pre-dating the Secret Invasion. But it pre-dates Secret Invasion, so you know what, this sin't evena spoiler. Guess what, guys, in a comic that happens nearly 1 year behind current canon continuity, Bucky does not prevent himself from becoming the Winter Soldier and destroy an entire year's worth of Captain America continuity.

The sky is also blue.

So yeah.
Were there some fun bits? Sure. There's some cute back and forth liones, Toro and Buck can be fun in the earlier issues, Jan has a moment of awesome,and there's some great Tony angst and wibbling. But overall, very uneven art story and plot makes this whole thing feel like a waste of a good concept.

So yeah, love for the spoiler, not much love for the series.

Name a fandom, and I'll give you the scoop on at least three of my unpopular opinions related to that fandom.

Assuming I have one . . .

Am I the only person who was put off by the still for Burton's Alice in Wonderland?

Ok, granted, I'm not a Burton fan true, but I don't write off everything he does per se. I mean yay Batman, and I still would like to see Sweeny Todd and Nightmare before Christmas, but those stills for Alice just made me cringe.

I don't know how to explain it, I guess maybe don't feel the match between Burton and Wonderland. I realize he does weird, but I think he does the wrong kind of weird for Alice in Wonderland . . . if that makes any sense.

I'd much rather see Brian Henson (does he still do things, or did the Disney mafia get rid of him?) or Del Toro take on the story because I think Burton just . . . misses something crucial for me a lot times, that I see in Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth and Henson's Beanstalk story that came out ages ago (certainly of Jim Henson were still alive he could do Alice in Wonderland easily IMHO. I remember where I was when I found out he died. Grocery store check outline with my mother and father. I was distraught).

Maybe I feel there's a charm in Alice and Wonderland that I worry Burton will totally miss because he tends to focus on the dark and bizarre and screwed up, which yes is there, but it's not the point. So I worry the director won't fit the material.

On the other hand, if someone told me Tim Burton was doing "Something Wicked this Way Comes" . . . ok I would kinda see the match there. In fact I would be interested in seeing his take on Cougar and Dark's Pandemonium Shadow Show.

I could also maybe see him doing The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub. Again not my first choice but I could see it.

But I just don't see Alice in Wonderland :(

I slammed my trunk on my laptop and uhhhh now have a small black void in the left top edge of my computer screen, and a line across it.

MY only reason to not totally have a heart attack was I pretty much couldn't use this laptop for major art projects anyway, given the issue I had with telling how dark or light something was + color.

And I can still use it to write both on word and on LJ so . . .
but I'm still annoyed.

I can't believe I did that!

Well off to work on the Big Bang with Ellyr_in_ink.
