Thanks to everyone who gave their thoughts and opinions on my post questioning why fandom used the term non-con in place of rape and whether this was healthy or not.
I am sorry I've not been able to respond to everything yet. Given the subject of the post, I'm limited where I feel able to pull that up on a computer, so I haven't had time.
But the responses were really awesome. Thanks!
( More beneath here, be wary of triggery subject )

This was my pinch hit for the Cap_Ironman holiday fest. The request was to have Avengers going through Disney stories with Tony as the princess. I had crazy fun with this and I'm just sad I didn't have time for more princesses (I had a sketch for snow white, but it MAJOR sucked)
Magical Universe, G, Watercolor and Technical Pen

( Disney Princess Tony )
I am surprised I haven't seen more things like this after Disney bought Marvel =P

hey guys, I'm trying to make a point to my husband and his friend.
Can anyone help me find the image created, IIRC for or related to Racebending.com, that showed the Avatar Character's as they look animated set next to how the look cast as real kids. (iirc there's one with the kids on costume)
This was the eye opener image for me that yeah, you can't just say "but it's animated, they look white-ish so it's no big thing"
Does anyone have a link?
I'm going through Glockgal's LJ and racebending.com and striking out.

Okay, I fully thinks 2/3rds of my f'list has seen this quote before.
I just came across it and I was *floored* by it, but it is not the point of this post, rather it leads into the point of this post:
( Under this cut, I ask why we use non-con rather than rape in fandom. It's not graphic, but this post does discuss rape, so presumably would any comments. )
I guess my final question would be, do we feel this is a socially good distinction to continue to make, or does it just further muddy the idea that a non consensual arrangement *is* rape?

Yawn and Streth.
Well I hope everyone had a great Holiday Season.
I rounded mine out be seeing Sherlock Holmes and Princess and the Frog.
Non Spoilery thoughts:
Holmes was freaking awesome. Not only did I enjoy it but the two Holmes fans I went with also both enjoyed it. It pleased the not-a-big-fan and the big-fan, and that's a hard balance to maintain, so good for it. I was impressed wiht the visuals in so much as I thought they did an amazing job of convincing me of the era. Also alll around, kudos on the acting.
The plot was excellent, very IMHO well thought out and I want that soundtrack!
Overall YAY MOVIE
. . .
Granted RDJ eye candy I'm sure helped bias everyone in the movies favor. =P
Princess and the Frog was much better than I expected. I was expecting something juvinile and, to be honest, something that might make me a little uncomfortable. It wasn't the racial issues so much, but the Voodoo. Let's face it, Voodoo is next to never used well in movies. So I was pleased that it seemed to be pretty obvious that it wasn't the Voodoo that was an issue, but the fact that the Shadow Man was just a nasty person all around. Cheers to that.
I mean yeah okay some of it was stereotypical but not, IMHO, much worse than what was running amuck in Pirates of the Carribean or Indiana Jones (pick one). So I'm not gonna jump down Disney's throat here. It was a enjoyable movie, with IMHO a nice balance between a working and falling in love versus you know the typical ZOMG I GIVE UP EVERYTHING FOR A MAN value.
Maybe you disagree, but I was happy ^__^
Oh also, *very* happy with the Rich White Girl's characterization She managed to be both spoile and yet not totally evil. Wow. Disney did some grey! Also the Bug. Fhalkjfhljshfl;hsaflkdshfalkjdsh THE BUG!!!!
So yes, both movies were shiney and pretty, but also I think intelligent and I dind't feel like I'd just killed a few brain cells.
And ermmm that's it, no off to lunch!

Fanart Drawn: I drew over 145 pieces this year. Want to see them?
They are all here Or most of them. A few fests things can't be put up yet, but yeah it's like 141 thumbnail links to the bigger artwork, so have fun ^__^
High Points of the Year: Getting Married =P I relate this to fanart because I drew all my own wedding favors as well as handled the center pieces. I turned the rest over because OMG DID NOT WANT (the planning hurt my head *cry*) But yes, I was artistically involved in my wedding, and the favors were a small magnet painting of Chibi me and Brandon. Another high point was comic con, which was amazing, but honestly, I like the smaller local cons almost better. They're cheaper to get to, artists I love still show and just as much fun ^__^
You peoples should come to a local Dallas Con sometime.
We have Adam West this Jan.
Low Points: While I appreciated the race!fail discussions, the low fandom point for me has to be whenever I saw privilege or fail or other such hot topics being used to bully or shut down another person's PoV (when it was a valid PoV based on cultural/regional/personal differences, not something nasty). Also I have a long rant about demanding reality now while previously claiming that fanfic weren't reality when LJ tried to harsh fandom's squee over child molestation and incest. ( more )
What I'm looking forward to in 2010: Manning a convention table. Sadly, due to miscommunication, I may not get one in Jan, but I'm very excited about doing this. It'll be my second year of marriage, first full year actually, so that'll be interesting. And I look forward to writing and reading and seeing more art in I poke fandoms here and there.
What I missed in 2009: Azkatraz. OMG *CRY* I wanted to go to that so bad,but not as bad as I wanted to go to comic con with my husband and friends. Sadly, I had to choose, and while I was happy to go to SDCC, I missed Azkatraz like whoa. So many people I have long standing connections with that I'd have loved to see again or meet in person for the first time. And even more sadly, the HP con in 2010 is just not gonna happen due to cost concerns.
Best Art for the Year: I'll pick different art for this meme:
WEDDING ART !!!! YAY!!!
Worst Art:
Ermmmmm I actually loved all my art a lot this year . . .
But here Green lantern Bucky I adore this, but the arm is clearly anatomically wrong AND IT GOET RECCED. I mean yay it got recced I'm thrilled it got recced,, but now the arm TAUNTS ME!!!!
Art Resolution for 2010:
1.Get a freaking table at a freaking convention.
Artist, sell thy art
2. Finish the HP Art Project.
I had to take the year off. I had some major life upheavals and a depressing turn of events but DARN IT I think fandom wants to see it even if I'm no longer sure JKR does >.>
3. Send art to at least one art show.
There's one in may I've done before. I need to do it again. I really do.
4. Try and actually get my stupid self organized so when I sell art there are not 6-8 month shipping delays.
It's unprofessional and unacceptable and I shoot myself in the foot.
5. Oil paint at least once
6. More finished pieces.
7. Push my watercoloring a lot lot more
8. Update my fanart site
9. Make my non-fanart site actually look professional
10. Practice more portraits

( I created over 145 works of art this year, counting things I either didn't get scanned and put up or that I can't list here because they are in a fest that hasn't had its reveal yet )
I learned this year I need to be better at archiving my fics. I know I didn't find them all.
( 67 or so fics, or ficlets rather, written this year! )
Things I noted:
I wasn't as varied in my fandoms this year as I was last year, but I was still fairly varied I think. Also, while I hae more art this year than last year, IIRC more of it is sketches. Also, I really *really* started exploring the possibilities of my chibi style.
Welp, one more day left of 2009. I'm trying to get me mass art and fic year end review post together. Still trying tot rack a few pics and fics down.
But in the meantime, I finished this meme, which I've been doing for a few years now and is my fave meme ever (So I hope many of you all do it).
For the first year ever, I actually included fics as well, which was interesting. I have noted that my fics tend to be darker than my art ^^
AND NOW!!! My all time favorite Meme! YAY!
( The End of Year Art (and now Fic) Meme: (warning, image heavy) )

IT IS SNOWING ON CHRISTMAS EVE IN DALLAS TEXAS!!!!!
shush, the is the closest I've ever had to a white christmas. It'll be gone by Christmas, but a A WHITE CHRISTMAS EVE!!!! *flail* I'm beyond thrilled. Like squeeing wanting to run around outside excited!!!!
I had the teeth extracted today. The Dentist looked at my mouth and rearranged his whole schedule because he thought I'd bee in real trouble if I waited any longer.
Fun time.
So I am watching Law and Order, being looked after by

Title Last Christmas
Rating PG
Characters Bucky/Toro
Notes As lots of people have pointed out to Brubaker, Christmas for Bucky and Toro in 1944 likely did not involve a Dance Hall. I know his Winter Kills story (which is awesome) make it canon they were there on the 25h, and not at the Battle of the Bulge, but I wrote this anyway. ^^
Bullets slammed into the ground, driving Bucky from tree he'd been using as cover. Panicked, he looked around, then saw Toro motioning him toward the snow embankment. He ran thinking about the cold biting against his nose, not the bullets. As his back hit the snow, he felt the freezing wetness soak into the few dry spots he had left. Beside him, he could see Toro, pale skin and green shorts standing out against the white snow.

Oh man, look at the difference the inker and the colorist make:
Behold Bryan Hitch's Art work (he's the penciler)

Awwwww! Steve!
See, pretty art!
But then Hitch goes to Reborn and we get:

LOOK! The Falcon is doing his best Mr. Fantastic impersionation!

WTF is with Sharon's outfit. Seriously. >.>
And the ponytail she and Black Widow have is just . .. . ugh no words.
I just can't get over how dissapointing the art in Reborn is. And it's not just the inker, though he's a big part because I've seen this inker on other works by other pencilers and it's the *same* mess.
I feel like Hitch is just phoning this in.
I get he had bucketloads of time on Ultimates AND was often late, but that doesn't stop the art in Reborn from being dissapointing.

It's a little late . . . . hopefully it works well.
Title This is Not a Drill

Warnings A racial slur is used in this fic.
Notes the Invaders were active prior to Pearl Harbor, in some canons
Summary Bucky (and Steve) react to Pearl Harbor
( Steve gave him an apologetic look, the one that always made Bucky think of a sad puppy, though he would never ever tell anyone that )

Oh look random little ficlet.
It's from
comment_fic and the prompt was Bucky/Toro adjusting to the 21st century. That was interesting to think about because they both have different areas of adjustment. Too missed maybe from the 70's on (adjusting for Marvel Time warp here) and Bucky sorta missed but probably had to be updated on tech and such, as the Winter Soldier, which he'd remember.
Anyway, I opted to focus on the current Green Trend. It's a nod to my Grandfather, because this is why he recycled back in '91.
